MINSTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, REGIONAL INTEGRATION & INTERNATIONAL TRADE
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Honourable Dhananjay Ramful has served as a barrister for more than 23 years at the Bar of Mauritius. During his career, he also served as: Senior Legal Adviser, Independent Commission Against Corruption; Chairperson of the Commission for Conciliation and Mediation, Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms; Deputy Chairperson of the Motor Vehicle Insurance Arbitration Committee; and Chairperson of the Human Resources Development Council.
POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT AS A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT
Hon. Dhananjay Ramful is currently the Secretary General of the Mauritius Labour Party, the majority party of the “Alliance du Changement", the ruling coalition of Mauritius. A Member of Parliament since 2014, Honourable Ramful was re-elected for a third consecutive mandate in November 2024.
MINISTERIAL PORTFOLIO
Hon. Dhananjay Ramful was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade on 22nd November 2024. The Ministry is the executive arm of the Government for the implementation of the foreign policy of Mauritius.
It is responsible for all matters pertaining to the conduct and administration of foreign policy, whether at bilateral or international levels, including all matters accruing from the membership of Mauritius to the United Nations and its specialized agencies, the African Union (AU), as well as other Regional and international organisations namely the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Southern African Development Community (SADC),the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).
The Ministry is also in charge of International trade and trade-related matters flowing from Membership of International Organisations namely the World Trade Organisation and Regional, Bilateral, Plurilateral and Multilateral Trade Agreements.
The Ministry is also responsible for the portfolios of: Regional Integration, Patents and Trademarks and Industrial Property. Matters concerning Human Rights and Sustainable Development Goals also fall under the purview of the Ministry.
