UK Global Tariff Introducing Autonomous Tariff Quo ...

On 19 May 2020, the UK announced a new global tariff regime (UKGT) that will apply once the post-Brexit transition period ends, from 01 January 2021 to third parties.During the Brexit transition period until 31 December 2020, the EU Common External tariff continues to be applied to goods imported into the UK. Once the transition period is over, the UKGT will apply to any goods imported into the UK from countries with which the UK does not have a Free Trade Agreement in place, and which are not covered by any other specific arrangement. Under the UKGT, the UK has introduced an Autonomous Tariff Quota (ATQ) for raw cane sugar that is open to all countries. The quota volume is 260,000 tonnes per annum at zero duty. This is ...

WTO Fifth Trade Policy Review of Mauritius WTO, Geneva, Switzerland 3 and 5 November 2021

The fifth Trade Policy Review (TPR) of Mauritius will be held on 3 and 5 November 2021 at the WTO Secretariat, in Geneva, instead of 27 and 29 April 2021.  The previously agreed timeline could not be respected, due to the emergency sanitary and economic lockdowns imposed in Mauritius and Switzerland as a consequence of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.   The fifth Trade Policy Review of Mauritius will be based on two reports, namely the WTO Secretariat Report and the Government of Mauritius Report.   The Report of the Government of Mauritius shall describe all the trade policies and practices pursued by Government, including all changes introdu ...

African Continental Free Trade Area Technical Working Group on Rules of Origin 13-17 July 2020

The 14th (Virtual) meeting of the AfCFTA Technical Working Group on Rules of Origin is scheduled for 13-17 July 2020. The aim the meeting will be to consider the draft manual on the application of the rules of origin. 2nd Round of Technical Negotiations between the EU and Five Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) Countries for the Deepening of the currently implemented Economic Partnership Agreement

The European Union (EU) and the five Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) countries, namely Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles, and Zimbabwe, implementing the interim Economic and Partnership Agreement, met virtually from 06 to 08 July to hold the second technical round of negotiations for the deepening of the agreement.Negotiations focused on four topics, namely Rules of Origin (RoO), Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT), Customs and Trade Facilitation (C&TF), and Sanitary and Phyto-sanitary issues (SPS).
