The Inaugural Session of the African Economic Platform (AEP) was officially launched on Monday 20 March 2017 by the Right Honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Jugnauth, at the Westin Turtle Bay Resort in Balaclava.
The conference is taking place from 20 to 22 March 2017. The Prime Minister stressed on the need to strengthen the manufacturing capabilities of African countries in view to accelerate economic growth and prosperity across the continent. Mr Pravind Jugnauth spoke of the vision of the African Union to establish a Continental Free Trade area that will allow African countries to raise production and trade more between themselves.
The AEP is organised by the African Union Platform whose main mission is to foster policy dialogue between government, the private sector and the academia in African countries.
The Prime Minister urged African countries to facilitate and encourage government and private sector interactions as a means to improve the effectiveness of economic policies and said that such partnership should be based on good governance and transparency.
