The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo, attended the 16th meeting of Council of Ministers of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA)  in Bali, Indonesia. He addressed the meeting on Thursday 27 October 2016 and urged Member-countries of the Rim to focus on economic growth, jobs creation and the fight against poverty as a matter of priority. The IORA countries must work out initiatives to increase trade and investments between them. In this context, the Minister proposed the setting up of Special Economic Zones in Member-countries in view to mobilise massive foreign investments and build industries and infrastructure that will spur business activities and create employment.

The Minister said he is happy to note that the IORA is working on an Action Plan that will be submitted to the next meeting of Heads of States and of Governments which is scheduled for the month of March 2017 in Bali.

The Minister held bilateral talks with his Malaysian and Australian counterparts, Mr Meezan Merican and Mrs Julie Bishop respectively, in the sidelines of the IORA Ministerial meeting.
