Mauritius participated in the Comoros Donors’ Conference (Conférence des partenaires au développement des Comores) held at the headquarters of the World Bank in Paris, France, from 2 to 3 December 2019. H.E. Mr. V. Valaydon, Ambassador Mauritius in Paris, and Mr H. Bhugun, First Secretary attended the Conference.
The objective of the Conference, which was sponsored by France, the World Bank and the UNDP, was to mobilise Euros 4.2 billion for development projects under the Plan Comores Emergent-PCE.
Mauritius pledged a USD 500,000 interest free line of credit to be repaid in instalments over a ten-year period to procure goods and services from Mauritius as well as an “in-kind” contribution in the areas of e-government and vocational training.
Mauritius has assured the Conference that it will continue to accompany Comoros in its development process. It was also recalled that the Government of Mauritius hosted the first Donor’s Conference on Comoros in 2005 and had written off Comoros debt in the financial year 2017/2018.
Mauritius will examine with the Union of Comoros how to further diversify our cooperation in different areas, including in the fields of e-government and vocational training at the next session of the Joint Commission between our two countries.
