African Continental Free Trade Area –
9th Meeting of the Technical Working Group on Trade in Services
(22 to 25 June 2020)
The 9th meeting of the AfCFTA Technical Working Group on Trade in Services is being held from 22nd to 25th June 2020 via video Conference call.
As per Decisions taken by the African Ministers of Trade at their 10th meeting held in October 2019 and the 33rd Ordinary Session of the Assembly which met in February 2020, Member States were expected to finalize and submit their Schedules of Specific Commitments on five (5) priority sectors (Business Services, Financial Services, Tourism Service, Transport Services and Communication Services) to the Extraordinary Summit, initially scheduled for May 2020.
However, as at date only seven (7) Member States have submitted their initial market access offer. Mauritius submitted its offer on the 5 priority sectors in May 2020.
The aims of the meeting are to:
a) give updates and negotiate on offers/requests in the five priority sectors;
b) present the project on regulatory assessment exercises for 24 Member States;
c) present the draft outline of the regulatory framework on the PAPSS; and
d) give updates on development of the services online portal and plans for the training of member states on the portal.
Representative of the International Trade Division will be participating in the meeting.
